Exporting Navisworks projects to Revizto Follow
This article describes how to export Navisworks Manage and Navisworks Simulate projects to Revizto 5.
Overview
You can export models from a Navisworks project to Revizto.
Prerequisites
Before you export Navisworks projects to Revizto, ensure that the following conditions are met:
-
Your computer meets the requirements for exporting projects.
-
Both Navisworks and Revizto are installed on your computer.
-
You have the required access rights in the destination Revizto project.
The required set of access rights depends on your goals. Consult the following table.
Right Description Append 3D Export new 3D models and new versions of the 3D models that you exported earlier.
This does not grant the right to export new versions of 3D models that were previously exported by other Revizto users.
Edit 3D Export all 3D models, including new versions of the 3D models that were previously exported by other Revizto users. Append 2D Export new sheets and new versions of sheets that you exported earlier.
This does not grant the right to export new versions of sheets that were previously exported by other Revizto users.
Edit 2D Export all sheets, including new versions of sheets that were previously exported by other Revizto users. Assign custom object properties This right is required to set model coordinates in Revizto when you export a 3D model for the first time.
Principles
You can export the following from a Navisworks project to Revizto:
- A model with its linked models, viewpoints, textures, lines, object geometries, object properties, and point clouds.
When you export models from a Navisworks project to Revizto, the following rules apply:
- You can export the objects included in the specified view.
- When you re-export a Navisworks project, the destination scene is completely overwritten. If some models are missing from the view or selection that you export, they will be deleted from Revizto after the export.
Limitations
When you export models and sheets from a Navisworks project to Revizto, the following limitations apply:
- Lines are exported as meshes.
- Texture coordinates are not exported due to Navisworks API restrictions. As a result, textures might get distorted or rotated.
Export options
These options apply when you export Navisworks projects to Revizto.
When you export your Navisworks project to Revizto, you can specify the model export settings.
Basic settings
These settings apply when you export Navisworks models to Revizto.
Option | Description |
Select view |
Select the 3D view to be exported. Only the elements that are visible in the view will be exported to Revizto. |
Viewpoints |
If you want to export Navisworks views to Revizto viewpoints, select this checkbox.
|
Textures |
If you want to export textures, select this checkbox. This option is recommended when the material appearance is important.
|
Lines |
If you want to export lines, select this checkbox. Lines are exported to Revizto as meshes. |
Point cloud |
If you want to export all point clouds linked to the Navisworks project, select this check box and select the point cloud quality (the minimum distance between points). The point size will be adjusted based on the distance. You can change the point size after the export in the Edit > Visual effects section of your Revizto project. Exporting point clouds with higher quality will increase the size of the resulting Revizto project and the export time. |
Advanced options | See Advanced settings. |
Advanced settings
These settings apply when you export Navisworks models to Revizto. To view them, in the export settings dialog, click the Advanced options button.
Option | Description |
Use IFCGuid for object identification in IFC models |
To generate the ReviztoId property from the IFCGuid property for IFC-originated objects, select this checkbox. This is the recommended option. For compatibility reasons, clear this checkbox for models that were first exported using Revizto 5.10 or earlier. |
Force export |
By default, Revizto exports only changed models. In rare cases Revizto cannot detect the changes due to Navisworks API constraints. If Revizto does not export a changed model, select this checkbox. |

Troubleshooting
To troubleshoot your export of Navisworks projects to Revizto, see the following sections:
Starting the export
Q: In Navisworks , the "Revizto 5" menu item is missing.
A: Ensure that the following conditions are met:
-
You are using a supported Navisworks version.
-
Navisworks is installed on your computer.
If both conditions are met, the Navisworks plug-in that was installed with Revizto is missing or corrupted. To restore the plug-in, close Navisworks and reinstall Revizto.
Export errors
Q: When I export a project from Navisworks to Revizto, I get the "Current project is locked by one of Revizto apps. Please make sure no other app is working with this project at the moment." error.
A: Another application is writing data to a Revizto project. This might be manual or scheduled export from another authoring tool, or synchronization with a cloud. Wait until the operation is completed or cancel it.
Q: During the scheduled export from Navisworks to Revizto, Navisworks does not start.
A: This can have the following reasons:
-
Navisworks might not start because it cannot sign in to Autodesk services. Check whether your Autodesk account is active.
-
The license type specified in the scheduler settings is incorrect. Select another license type and try again.
Q: When I choose to update an existing model, some of the models in the list are unavailable. They are marked with the icon.
A: This can have the following reasons:
-
The first version of the model was exported by another project member, and you do not have enough rights to overwrite it.
-
The model was exported from another authoring tool. It can be overwritten only from that authoring tool.
Please consult the project owner on the correct method of updating the model.
Export results
Q: I cannot find an exported model in Revizto.
A: Do the following:
-
In the Revizto application, open the object tree.
-
In the object tree, right-click the model and click Focus on objects.
-
If you still cannot find the model, in the object tree, right-click the model and click Isolate.
Note. You can undo the isolation by clicking Undo at the bottom toolbar.
Q: The colors of some objects in the Revizto model are different from the colors of the source Navisworks model.
A: The selected render does not include textures (for example, it is the "Shaded" render) but the export settings have the Textures checkbox selected. Clear the Textures checkbox and try again.
Q: After the export from Navisworks, some models or model parts are not displayed in Revizto.
A: This can have the following reasons:
-
The modes or model parts are hidden from the view that you selected in the export settings.
Select a view that includes the models or model parts, and then re-export the model.
-
Revizto cannot detect that the models were changed and therefore does not export them.
Select the Force export checkbox in the advanced export settings, and then re-export the project.
-
The camera visibility distance in Revizto is short. The model parts were exported but you cannot see them from that distance.
In the Revizto application, do one of the following:
-
Move closer to see the missing parts.
-
In Preferences > Camera, increase the camera visibility distance.
-
-
To optimize model rendering, Revizto draws only one side of each polygon. You do not see the polygons because their surfaces that face your point of view are not displayed.
Export scheduler
Q: The export does not start at the scheduled time.
A: Do the following:
-
Ensure that at least one weekday is selected in the export schedule.
-
Ensure that the computer that runs the export is turned on, is not in sleep mode, and you are signed in to the Windows user account that you use to run the export.
-
Ensure that the Microsoft Windows user account that you use to run the export is a member of the Administrators group.
