Exporting Inventor projects to Revizto Follow
This article describes how to export Inventor projects to Revizto.
Overview
You can export models and sheets from an Inventor project to Revizto.
Prerequisites
Before you export Inventor projects to Revizto, ensure that the following conditions are met:
-
Your computer meets the requirements for exporting projects.
-
Both Inventor and Revizto are installed on your computer.
-
You have the required access rights in the destination Revizto project.
The required set of access rights depends on your goals. Consult the following table.
Right Description Append 3D Export new 3D models and new versions of the 3D models that you exported earlier.
This does not grant the right to export new versions of 3D models that were previously exported by other Revizto users.
Edit 3D Export all 3D models, including new versions of the 3D models that were previously exported by other Revizto users. Append 2D Export new sheets and new versions of sheets that you exported earlier.
This does not grant the right to export new versions of sheets that were previously exported by other Revizto users.
Edit 2D Export all sheets, including new versions of sheets that were previously exported by other Revizto users. Assign custom object properties This right is required to set model coordinates in Revizto when you export a 3D model for the first time.
Principles
You can export the following from a Inventor project to Revizto:
- A model with its viewpoints, textures, object geometries, and object properties.
- Sheets that belong to the models with the sheet numbers, names, revisions, and properties.
When you export models and sheets from a Inventor project to Revizto, the following rules apply:
- When you export sheets for the first time, they are exported to a folder that is named after the model. Then you can edit the structure of sheet folders in Revizto as you like. The folder structure will be preserved during the next exports.
- When you re-export a Inventor project, the destination scene is completely overwritten. If some models are missing from the view or selection that you export, they will be deleted from Revizto after the export.
- When you re-export a Inventor project, the sheets that you export overwrite their previous versions. Other sheets that were previously exported from this Inventor project remain intact.
Limitations
When you export models and sheets from a Inventor project to Revizto, the following limitation applies:
- Objects that don’t have polygonal presentations (have the same look in the 3dWireframe and Shaded modes) are not exported.
- Due to Inventor API limitations, export scheduling is not supported. Only manual export to Revizto is available.
Export options
These options apply when you export Inventor projects to Revizto.
Model export settings
When you export your Inventor project to Revizto, you can specify the model export settings.
Option | Description |
Model view |
Select the 3D view to be exported. Only the elements that are visible in the view will be exported to Revizto. |
Viewpoints |
If you want to export Inventor views to Revizto viewpoints, select this checkbox.
|
Sheet export settings
When you export your Inventor project to Revizto, you can specify the sheet export settings.
Option | Description |
Additional files |
If you store sheets in external .idw or .dwg files, click Add and select these files. To remove all external files, click Clear. |
Select sheets to export |
Select the sheets that you want to export.

Exporting Inventor projects
You can export a Inventor project to Revizto manually, or schedule the export for nonworking hours.
To export a Inventor project to Revizto:
-
In Inventor, open the source project.
-
At the top menu, go to Add-Ins > Revizto 5 > Export to Revizto 5.
Troubleshooting:
-
If your Inventor project is not linked to a Revizto project, you will proceed to the Link Settings dialog.
-
To link the model to an existing project, click Link to existing project, click OK, select a project, and click OK.
-
To create a project and link the model to it, click Create New Project, click OK, enter the project name, and click OK.
This will create a local project. Then you can open it in the Revizto application and upload it to a cloud or shared location.
-
-
If it is the first time you export to this Revizto project and the Revizto project already has a 3D model, select the destination scene and click OK.
-
Add as a new model. Export the Inventor models to a new scene.
-
Update an existing model. Select a Revizto scene to overwrite.
Troubleshooting:
-
-
If you selected Update an existing model in the previous step, review the mapping between the Inventor models and the Revizto models and correct it if needed, then click OK.
-
If you want to export models, select the Export 3D models checkbox, and then specify the model export settings.
-
If you want to export sheets, select the Export Sheets check box, click Select sheets, specify the sheet export settings, and click Save.
-
If you want to change the destination Revizto project, click Change.
You will proceed to the Link Settings dialog. For the description of this dialog, see step 3 of this procedure.
-
If there is an asterisk next to the Export Options title, some of the settings that are stored in a configuration file and affect the export have non-default values. Move the pointer over the asterisk to review the changed settings.
-
Click Export.
-
Wait until the export is completed.
This might take from several minutes to several hours, depending on the project size, the number of sheets, and the performance of your computer.
Troubleshooting
To troubleshoot your export of Inventor projects to Revizto, see the following sections:
Starting the export
Q: In Inventor, the "Export to Revizto 5" menu item is unavailable.
A: Perform the following steps:
-
Open Inventor Add-in Manager and ensure that the Revizto plug-in is loaded. The plug-in name is Revizto.Inventor.<Inventor version>.
-
If the Revizto plug-in is not on the list, ensure that the following conditions are met:
-
You are using a supported Inventor version.
-
Revizto is installed on your computer.
If both conditions are met, the Inventor plug-in that was installed with Revizto is missing or corrupted. To restore the plug-in, close Inventor and reinstall Revizto.
-
Export errors
Q: When I export a project from Inventor to Revizto, I get the "Current project is locked by one of Revizto apps. Please make sure no other app is working with this project at the moment." error.
A: Another application is writing data to a Revizto project. This might be manual or scheduled export from another authoring tool, or synchronization with a cloud. Wait until the operation is completed or cancel it.
Q: When I choose to update an existing model, some of the models in the list are unavailable. They are marked with the icon.
A: This can have the following reasons:
-
The first version of the model was exported by another project member, and you do not have enough rights to overwrite it.
-
The model was exported from another authoring tool. It can be overwritten only from that authoring tool.
Please consult the project owner on the correct method of updating the model.
Export results
Q: I cannot find an exported model in Revizto.
A: Do the following:
-
In the Revizto application, open the object tree.
-
In the object tree, right-click the model and click Focus on objects.
-
If you still cannot find the model, in the object tree, right-click the model and click Isolate.
Note. You can undo the isolation by clicking Undo at the bottom toolbar.
Q: After the export from Inventor, some parts of a model are not displayed in Revizto.
A: This can have the following reasons:
-
The camera visibility distance in Revizto is short. The model parts were exported but you cannot see them from that distance.
In the Revizto application, do one of the following:
-
Move closer to see the missing parts.
-
In Preferences > Camera, increase the camera visibility distance.
-
-
To optimize model rendering, Revizto draws only one side of each polygon. You do not see the polygons because their surfaces that face your point of view are not displayed.
