Publishing AutoCAD projects to Revizto Follow

This article describes how to publish AutoCAD projects to Revizto.

Overview

You can publish models and sheets from an AutoCAD project to Revizto.

Prerequisites

Before you publish AutoCAD projects to Revizto, ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • Your computer meets the requirements for publishing projects.

  • Both AutoCAD and Revizto are installed on your computer.

    List of supported AutoCAD versions

  • You have the required access rights in the destination Revizto project.

    The required set of access rights depends on your goals. Consult the following table.

    Add new 3D models

    Publish new 3D models and new versions of the 3D models that you published earlier.

    This does not grant the right to publish new versions of 3D models that were previously published by other Revizto users.
    Manage all 3D models Publish all 3D models, including new versions of the 3D models that were previously published by other Revizto users.
    Add new sheets

    Publish new sheets and new versions of sheets that you published earlier.

    This does not grant the right to publish new versions of sheets that were previously published by other Revizto users.
    Manage all sheets Publish all sheets, including new versions of sheets that were previously published by other Revizto users.
    Assign custom object properties This right is required to set model coordinates in Revizto when you publish a 3D model for the first time.

Principles

You can publish the following from an AutoCAD project to Revizto:

  • A model with its referenced models (xrefs), current viewpoint, textures, lines, object geometries, object properties, and point clouds.
  • Sheets that belong to the models with the sheet numbers, names, revisions, and properties.

When you publish models and sheets from an AutoCAD project to Revizto, the following rules apply:

  • You can publish one of the following: the objects included in the specified view or the objects included in the current selection.
  • When you publish sheets for the first time, they are published to a folder that is named after the model file. Then you can edit the structure of sheet folders in Revizto as you like. The folder structure will be preserved during the next publishing.
  • When you re-publish an AutoCAD project, the destination scene is completely overwritten. If some models are missing from the view or selection that you publish, they will be deleted from Revizto after publishing.
  • When you re-publish an AutoCAD project, the sheets that you publish overwrite their previous versions. Sheets that were deleted from the AutoCAD project are not deleted from Revizto.

Limitations

When you publish models and sheets from an AutoCAD project to Revizto, the following limitations apply:

  • Some lines are not published. Line styles are not supported.
  • Objects that don’t have polygonal presentations (have the same look in the 3dWireframe and Shaded modes) are not published.
  • Texture patterns are not published.
  • Texture coordinates are not published due to AutoCAD API restrictions. As a result, textures might get distorted or rotated.
  • Text labels are not supported.

Publishing options

These options apply when you publish AutoCAD projects to Revizto.

Model publishing settings

When you publish your AutoCAD project to Revizto, you can specify the model publishing settings.

Option Description
Publish 3D models To publish the model, select the checkbox.
Textures

If you want to publish textures, select this checkbox. This option is recommended when the material appearance is important.

  • If you select the checkbox, the Revizto model will be similar to the AutoCAD model with realistic visual style.
  • If you clear the checkbox, the Revizto model will be similar to the AutoCAD model with shaded visual style.
Lines If you want to publish lines, select this checkbox.
Point clouds

If you want to publish all point clouds linked to the AutoCAD project, select this checkbox and select the point cloud quality (the minimum distance between points).

The point size will be adjusted based on the distance. You can change the point size after publishing in the Edit > Visual Effects section of your Revizto project.

Publishing point clouds with higher quality will increase the size of the resulting Revizto project and the publishing time.

Sheet publishing settings

When you publish your AutoCAD project to Revizto, you can specify the sheet publishing settings.

To view the settings, in the publish settings dialog, click the Select sheets button.

Publishing AutoCAD projects

You can publish an AutoCAD project to Revizto manually, or schedule the publishing for nonworking hours.

Publishing AutoCAD projects to Revizto manually

To publish an AutoCAD project to Revizto:

  1. In AutoCAD, open the source project.

  2. At the top menu, go to Revizto 5 > Publish to Revizto.

    If you applied a selection, it will be cleared when you open the publishing wizard. However, if you apply the selection after opening the wizard, only the selected objects will be published.

    Troubleshooting:

  3. If your AutoCAD project is not linked to a Revizto project, you will proceed to the Link to Revizto project dialog.

    • To create a project and link the model to it, click Create a new Revizto project, click OK, enter the project name, and click OK.
    • To link the model to an existing project, click Link to an existing Revizto project, click OK, select a project, and click OK.

    This will create a local project. Then you can open it in the Revizto application and upload it to a cloud or shared location.

  4. If it is the first time you publish to this Revizto project and the Revizto project already has a 3D model, select the destination scene and click OK.
  5. If you selected Update an existing model in the previous step, review the mapping between the AutoCAD models and the Revizto models and correct it if needed, then click OK.
  6. If you want to publish models, select the Publish 3D models checkbox, and then specify the model publishing settings.
  7. If you want to publish sheets, select the Publish sheets checkbox, click Select sheets, specify the sheet publishing settings, and click Save.

  8. If you want to change the destination Revizto project, click Change.

    You will proceed to the Link to Revizto project dialog. See Linking AutoCAD projects to Revizto projects.

  9. If there is an asterisk next to the Publishing settings title, some of the settings that are stored in a configuration file and affect the publishing have non-default values. Move the pointer over the asterisk to review the changed settings.

  10. Click Publish.

  11. Wait until publishing is completed.

    This might take from several minutes to several hours, depending on the project size, the number of sheets, and the performance of your computer.

Scheduling publishing of AutoCAD projects to Revizto

You can schedule publishing of AutoCAD projects to Revizto.

To schedule publishing of an AutoCAD project to Revizto:

  1. In AutoCAD, open the source project.

  2. At the top menu, go to Revizto 5 > Revizto Scheduler.

    Troubleshooting:

  3. If your AutoCAD project is not linked to a Revizto project, you will proceed to the Link to Revizto project dialog.

    • To create a project and link the model to it, click Create a new Revizto project, click OK, enter the project name, and click OK.
    • To link the model to an existing project, click Link to an existing Revizto project, click OK, select a project, and click OK.

    This will create alocal project. Then you can open it in the Revizto application and upload it to a cloud or shared location.

  4. If it is the first time you publish to this Revizto project and the Revizto project already has a 3D model, select the destination scene and click OK.
  5. If you selected Update an existing model in the previous step, review the mapping between the AutoCAD models and the Revizto models and correct it if needed, then click OK.

  6. Specify the publishing options.

    Option Description
    Publish 3D models If you want to publish the models, select this checkbox and specify the model publishing settings.
    Publish sheets If you want to publish sheets, select this checkbox, click Select sheets, specify the sheet publishing settings, and click Save.
    Sync Revizto project after publishing

    Sync the Revizto project with the cloud or a shared location after publishing.

    This option is available only for cloud and shared location projects.

    To change the destination Revizto project, click Change. You will proceed to the Link to Revizto project dialog. See Linking AutoCAD projects to Revizto projects.
  7. Click OK.

Linking AutoCAD projects to Revizto projects

When an AutoCAD project is linked to a Revizto project:

  • The AutoCAD project is published to the linked Revizto project.
  • You can create issues in the linked Revizto project directly from AutoCAD.
  • You can switch back from the linked Revizto project to the AutoCAD project.

When you publish an AutoCAD project to Revizto for the first time, you are prompted to link it to a Revizto project.

You might want to change the linked Revizto project if you want to publish your AutoCAD project to a different Revizto project.

To link an AutoCAD project to a Revizto project:

  1. In AutoCAD, open the source project.

  2. At the top menu, go to Revizto 5 > Link Settings.

    If you are not signed in to Revizto, you will be prompted to sign in.

  3. Click Link or Link to another project.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • To create a project and link the model to it, click Create a new Revizto project, click OK, enter the project name, and click OK.
    • To link the model to an existing project, click Link to an existing Revizto project, click OK, select a project, and click OK.

    This will create a local project. Then you can open it in the Revizto application and upload it to a cloud or shared location.

To troubleshoot your publishing of AutoCAD projects to Revizto, see the following sections:

Starting publishing

Q: In AutoCAD, the "Revizto 5" menu item is unavailable.

A: Do one of the following:

  • If the menu item is present but not clickable, open a project.

  • If the menu item is missing, ensure that the following conditions are met:

    • You are using a supported AutoCAD version.
    • Revizto is installed on your computer.

    If both conditions are met, the AutoCAD plug-in that was installed with Revizto is missing or corrupted. To restore the plug-in, close AutoCAD and reinstall Revizto.

     

Publishing errors

Q: When I publish a project from AutoCAD to Revizto, I get the "The project is locked by another instance of Revizto. To unlock the project, close other Revizto instances on your device." error.

A: Another application is writing data to a Revizto project. This might be manual or scheduled publishing from another authoring tool, or synchronization with a cloud. Wait until the operation is completed or cancel it.

 

Q: During the scheduled publishing from AutoCAD to Revizto, AutoCAD does not start.

A: AutoCAD might not start because it cannot sign in to Autodesk services. Check whether your Autodesk account is active.

 

Q: When I choose to update an existing model, some of the models in the list are unavailable. They are marked with the image2.png icon.

A: This can have the following reasons:

  • The first version of the model was published by another project member, and you do not have enough rights to overwrite it.
  • The model was published from another authoring tool. It can be overwritten only from that authoring tool.

Please consult with the project owner on the correct method of updating the model.

 

Publishing results

Q: I cannot find a published model in Revizto.

A: Do the following:

  1. In the Revizto application, open the object tree.
  2. In the object tree, right-click the model and click Focus on objects.
  3. If you still cannot find the model, in the object tree, right-click the model and click Isolate.

Note. You can undo the isolation by clicking Undo image1.png at the bottom toolbar.

 

Q: After publishing from AutoCAD, some parts of a model are not displayed in Revizto.

A: This can have the following reasons:

  • The view that you selected in the publishing settings does not include the model parts.

    Select a view that includes the models parts, and then re-publish the model.

  • During the manual publishing, you had some model parts selected. As a result, only the selected parts were published.

    Re-publish the model without applying any selection.

  • The camera visibility distance in Revizto is short. The model parts were published but you cannot see them from that distance.

    In the Revizto application, do one of the following:

    • Move closer to see the missing parts.
    • In Preferences > Camera, increase the camera visibility distance.

  • To optimize model rendering, Revizto draws only one side of each polygon. You do not see the polygons because their surfaces that face your point of view are not displayed.

Q: After publishing from AutoCAD, some models have incorrect positions.

A: The model’s drawing units are not set ("Units to scale inserted content" is set to "Unitless"). Select units and re-publish the model.

 

Scheduler

Q: The publishing does not start at the scheduled time.

A: Do the following:

  • Ensure that at least one weekday is selected in the publishing schedule.
  • Ensure that the computer that runs the publishing is turned on, is not in sleep mode, and you are signed in to the Windows user account that you use to run the publishing.
